The petition
A standing petition in defence of the Robberg peninsula and coastline and the Cape Floral Region UNESCO World Heritage Site.
By signing, you join a continuing public call on the South African authorities to ensure that no development is permitted to damage, fragment or diminish the Robberg peninsula and coastline and the protected ecosystems for which it acts as a buffer.
This is not a one-off petition for a single application. Your signature is added once and counts each time we lodge the petition in respect of an application that puts the corridor at risk. You can withdraw it at any time.
Fill in your details below. We'll send a confirmation link to your email — one tap and your signature is on the record.
Robberg Nature Reserve is part of the Cape Floral Region Protected Areas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed for its Outstanding Universal Value. The Robberg peninsula and coastline is the declared Protected Environment that buffers it from the urban edge of Plettenberg Bay. The corridor protects Critically Endangered fynbos, a Major Aquifer, Critical Biodiversity Areas, and archaeological values associated with the Cradle of Human Culture.
Once built on, that buffer cannot be put back.
For every development application affecting the corridor and its buffer function, we ask the responsible authorities to:
Each ask is grounded in existing South African environmental law. We are not asking for anything new. We are asking that the law be applied.
When a new application puts the corridor at risk, we lodge an updated copy of this petition with the responsible authorities. You will be notified a few days before each lodgement, with a one-click opt-out if you prefer not to be included on a particular occasion.
